Precision Granite Base: High-Stability, Low-Expansion CMM Core

The precision granite base of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is the core structural component of a high-end CMM system. Serving as the physical reference for the entire equipment, its performance directly determines the accuracy and long-term stability of measurement outcomes. Compared with traditional metallic materials, granite—with its unique physical properties—is the ideal choice for building measurement spaces requiring micron-level or even nanometer-level precision.
Product Features: Unparalleled Stability of Physical Properties
The core advantage of the granite base lies in its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (typically 0.5–1.0 × 10⁻⁶/℃), which is significantly lower than that of steel (approximately 12 × 10⁻⁶/℃). This ensures minimal deformation under temperature fluctuations, effectively preventing measurement datum drift caused by thermal expansion and contraction. Additionally, its high density (approximately 2.6–3.0 g/cm³) and high hardness endow the base with exceptional load-bearing capacity, enabling it to withstand prolonged pressure from heavy-duty equipment without creep deformation. Furthermore, the dense crystalline structure of granite provides excellent vibration damping performance, effectively absorbing high-frequency vibrations. This ensures stable probe readings during workpiece contact, unaffected by environmental interference.
Product Technology: From Natural Stone to Precision Foundation

The manufacturing of a precision granite base is a complex multi-stage process. It begins with strict selection of natural granite raw materials (such as Jinan Black and Zhangqiu Black) that feature fine crystals and uniform texture. Key processing steps include CNC cutting, planing, grinding, drilling, and embedding. Among these, precision grinding is the most critical procedure, typically performed in a temperature-controlled workshop using large-scale precision equipment for multi-stage grinding. This ensures the surface achieves nanometer-level flatness (with a typical requirement of ≤0.002mm/1000mm). Some high-end products also undergo structural optimization via finite element analysis, guaranteeing the base not only meets high-precision standards but also possesses optimal mechanical performance.
